CATS Is Back: The acclaimed revival of the memorable meowsical hits Hong Kong this January and we have tickets to give away

PRESENTED BY

It was nine years ago when the tribe of the Jellicles was last in Hong Kong, and we’re thrilled to report the musical with cat-itude is making a comeback this January. Because of high demand, the show has been extended for one last week until Feb. 11, with no further extension possible. Paw-lease! We knew Hong Kong couldn’t resist these furry characters.

CATS had its first debut back in the London’s West End 36 years ago. (Wait, how many cat lives is that?) The show is based on T. S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, a collection of whimsical stories of cat psychology, and magically composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber. Legend has it the book was his childhood fave.

This hit revival first opened at London Palladium in 2014 with Nicole Scherzinger as Grizabella; a perfect role for the former Pussycat Dolls lead singer! Reworked by the original CATS creative team, it received excellent reviews and the season was extended to April 2015. The show returned for a second season from October 2015 to January 2016, with Beverley Knight as Grizabella, who received equal acclaim for her lead role.

CATS  depicts the life of, well, cats. They belong to a remarkable tribe called the Jellicles. On a special moonlit night each year, the tribe gathers together for the Jellicle Ball. They tell extraordinary stories and the tribe’s leader, Old Deuteronomy, decides which cat is going to ascend to a new life in the Heaviside Layer. If this sounds totally trippy, it’s because it is!

The clever feline characters just add to the entertainment. Meet Mr. Mistoffelees and his magical powers, the lazy Jennyanydots, Rum Tum Tugger, glamorous Grizabella, and more.

The drama unfolds as Grizabella, a rejected tribe member, sings the classic song Memory, one of the biggest musical hits of all time. Longing for her old life, she belts out her feline feelings with an unforgettable melody. (It’s been recorded by over 150 artists from Barbra Streisand and Johnny Mathis to Liberace and Barry Manilow, so you really never will forget it.)

Set Designer John Napier brings the vibrant world of the cat slums to life, while the choreography by Gillian Lynne creates the perfect balance of kitty-inspired movements and contemporary dance.

You’ll never look at the market cats around Hong Kong the same after witnessing this beautiful, enchanting story. Are they creating their own world, with their own tribes and social hierarchy? Is your cat plotting against you while you’re at work? The answer is probably yes, but don’t worry, just watch CATS and think paw-sitive.
