‘Table for two please’: Where to eat for Valentine’s Day in Hong Kong

The end of January is near, which means that there isn’t much time left to book that table for two for Valentine’s Day. If you’re the unfortunate man (or woman) who has been tasked with finding a spot for dinner, don’t worry, Coconuts HK has a few suggestions.

Bao Bei
Bring your bae to Bao Bei for a special four-course “East Meets West” menu. Couples can also request to play a Valentine’s Day human-sized Jenga game, designed to help diners find out exactly what their significant other loves about them. Guests will also get a complimentary glass of sparkling wine.

Cali-Mex
For those in the mood for Mexican food, consider a romantic dinner for two at Cali-Mex. With two flagship locations in Lan Kwai Fong and Sai Ying Pun, couples don’t have to worry about that mad rush to find a table, and the best part is the menu will be available for six days.

Starters: Drunken Tequila Lobster (flown in from Canada)
Mains: Charcoal Grilled USDA T-Bone (16 oz) or Roast Duck and Grilled Atlantic Salmon with sides of Truffle Mash or Creamed Spinach
Dessert: Churros Ice Cream Sundae with two glasses of Mumm Champagne

Operetta
For those of you looking for a bit of that dolce vita, try Operetta’s Valentine Sharing Menu for dinner, which includes an antipasti sharing platter, pasta, mains, and a special dessert they call sweetheart’s Planet.

Starters: Antipasti sharing platter that includes oysters served with smoked salmon roe; followed by Vitello Tonnato topped with capers, orange and Puntarelle chicory; and tuna tartare served with cauliflower, celery and caviar
Pasta: Tagliatelle with porcini mushrooms and saffron; and mascarpone cheese ravioli in sage sauce
Mains: Oven baked Italian sea bass topped with fresh spinach and leeks; or tender Australian Wagyu tagliata served with broccolis and roasted potatoes
Dessert: Sweetheart’s Planet, which is made up of passion fruit, almonds, raspberries, flowers and yogurt

Los Sotano

Among other restaurants that will have San Valentín menus available for a few days is Los Sotano. The venue will also feature a live mariachi band to serenade you through the evening. Señoritas have also been warned to beware of Linda, who might steal your querido on the day of love (we have no idea who or what Linda is, but we’re curious).

Starters: Taco Platter — choose four out of seven from Al Pastor (Spit Roasted Pork Shoulder and Grilled Pineapple), Camarones (Avion Tequila Marinated Shrimp and Chilli), Pescado (Beer Battered Fish, Mango Salsa, Pico De Gallo), Ribeye (Grilled USDA Ribeye Marinated in a Chimichurri Sauce), Avocado (Fresh Avocado with Melted Jack Cheese) and Carnitas (Slow Roasted Pork Belly), and Southern Fried Chicken
Mains: Charcoal Grilled Spatchcock, which is chicken that is marinated with Al Pastor seasoning and served with tingy roasted pineapples, Pico De Gallo, Guacamole and Charred Lime; or Tequila USDA Ribeye, a 10oz Ribeye steak marinated in Avion Tequila, Chimichuri, Dill, Coriander, and Fried Jalapeño. Takumi by Daisuke Mori
This one Michelin-star restaurant combines French culinary techniques with seasonal Japanese ingredients, and will be spoiling couples with an exclusive nine-course meal that combines the best of east and west. With enough space for just 11 guests, diners are bound to have a very intimate experience.

Courses: Snow crab and Hokkaido uni wrapped in a delicate ravioli made from Shogoinkabura, a Japanese turnip from Kyoto; Sanriku oysters wrapped in crisp kadaif pastry and served on a pillow of pumpkin and coriander espuma; homemade tagliolini with Australian black lipped abalone; Sanshou peppers, served with pan-seared foie gras and Japanese bamboo; poached blue lobster served with mixed Japanese mushrooms and barigoule (signature dish); and followed by a choice of roasted duck breast or charcoal grilled Japanese Wagyu beef tenderloin prepared two ways (signature dish)

ON Dining
For one night only, Chef Philippe Orrico will be offering one couple the opportunity to enjoy a six-course Valentine’s Day meal at his Michelin-starred restaurant. The lucky couple will have an al-fresco dining experience on ON Dining’s rooftop with dedicated server on hand. If that is a bit too pricey for you, don’t worry, the venue features a fine-dining restaurant that will offer prix fixe menus from HK$988, and a more casual Lounge Menu for HK$488 per person on the 29th floor.
