5 cafes in Hong Kong with free Wi-Fi

A version of this article was previously published on HKELD, Hong Kong’s number-one blog for all things theatrical. They tell you what’s on, where it playing, and what’s good on their mission to bring artists and audiences together.

In Hong Kong space is limited, meaning those who work from home but also need to hold meetings can find life a challenge – especially if you’re new in town.

Free, unlimited Wi-Fi isn’t as common in Hong Kong as you think it would be. (SHOULD BE!)

In the US, practically all Starbucks and coffee shops provide it. In Singapore it’s provided at all libraries, mosques and temples. But in Hong Kong, it seems, you need to hunt forever or have a friend with some knowledge to find the hidden gems of free Wi-Fi. Let HKELD be that friend.

Here’s five cafes that we love to have our meetings at because 1/ they’re wonderful local establishments and 2/ they have free unlimited Wi-Fi for all customers with a purchase.

1) Capo’s Espresso

Address: 4 Gilman’s Bazaar, Central (Google Maps)
Tel: (+852) 2545-9128

Located by the L Place, this is a Pulp Fiction-themed cafe run by an Australian guy who believes that “life is too short to drink sh**tty coffee”. We can’t help but agree with him and love the sarcasm of the staff, great Wi-Fi signal and delicious snacks. They’re also competition-level baristas, so expect a great cup of coffee when you come.

2) Think Cafe

Address: Kyoto Plaza, 19B Kyoto Plaza, 491-499 Lockhart Road, Causeway Bay (Google Maps)
Tel: (+852) 2155-9677

Think Cafe is a membership club. You pay HKD60 to get three hours of unlimited water, tea and coffee. There are great big tables, arm chairs and open spaces. The chairs are unbelievably comfy, there are plenty of places to charge your phone or computer, and plenty of space to spread out for a big project. You can even bring your own food. This is our favorite place for a big meeting.

3) Café 8

Address: Pier 8, Central (On top of the Maritime Museum) (Google Maps)
Tel: (+852) 3791-2158

Cafe 8 is a charity cafe on top of Pier 8 in Central. It has one of the best views in the city and a great big cup of coffee that’s possibly the best value for money in Hong Kong. Cafe 8 is the result of a unique collaboration between the Hong Kong Maritime Museum and the Nesbitt Centre to create a progressive environment for people with learning disabilities.

4) Wired Cafe

Address: Shop 1403-04, 14/F, Hysan Place, 500 Hennessy Road, Causeway Bay (Google Maps)
Tel: (+852) 233-8315

Wired Cafe has got everything you need… work space, ambiance and tasty food. There’s free WiFi, a great view of Causeway Bay and unlimited refills on coffee for HKD90. (Yes, you heard that right!) It also has a gigantic menu of Western and Japanese fusion food. Wired Café is located conveniently in Hysan Place.

5) Charlie Brown Cafe

58-60 Cameron Rd, Tsim Sha Tsui (Google Maps)
Tel: (+852) 2366-6315

For our Kowloon readers we had to put this cute little place on the list. It’s a themed Snoopy cafe with adorable drinks and a really good W-Fi signal. (Make sure to take the receipt with you.) This cafe can be a little loud around lunch time and post school rush (3pm – 5pm) but between those times it’s eerily quiet and chilled. There are also decent snacks to keep you fueled up while you bust through your meeting agenda.
