Souls of Hong Kong: Poying at freedom of press rally

SOULS OF HONG KONG – We met university student Poying who is majoring in Journalism in Wan Chai. She was at a rally with her friends to defend Hong Kong’s press freedom and condemn the brutal attack on former Ming Pao newspaper chief editor, Kevin Lau.

“I know a rally might not make a big change to Hong Kong’s weakening freedom of press and speech, but I hope by joining this rally I can encourage more local people to, at the very least, start caring about press freedom and our society. As a journalism student, I believe I have the responsibility to speak up.”

Souls of Hong Kong is a new Coconuts series of street portrait photography inspired by Brandon Stanton’s Humans of New York. Every human has a story to tell, and we intend to share some from the millions of souls who call Hong Kong home.
