A fine, upstanding lady of Pattaya (formerly known as Thailand’s Sin City but now a bastion of family fun) found an iPhone 7 Plus at a local 7-Eleven and doesn’t want to give it back unless the owner gives her THB5,000 “ransom.”

Saifon Moonchan, 45, used the phone to call its owner’s sister to say that she found the lost item and wanted THB5,000 for its safe return.

When the owner offered her THB1,000 for taking care of her phone, Saifon was not pleased. In fact, she so strongly felt that she was within her rights to demand a higher ransom for the phone that she called the police to help finish their transaction.

“I didn’t steal it. I found it. I can ask for a ransom that pleases me,” Saifon said.

“I found the phone. The owner wants it back. I want my ransom. So what?” she told RD News Channel 3.

Officers met Saifon at a Soi Bua Khao area bar where she explained her logic to them. She noted that the lost phone costs THB30,000 but she was only asking for THB5,000 for its safe return. She called her offer a bargain.

The story has been making the rounds on social media and was covered by local news. The outcome of the phone and its ransom was not immediately known.
