Video of parents pouring beer, whiskey into their child’s mouth enrages internet

A couple who posted a video of them pouring beer and whiskey into the mouth of their child were widely criticized on social media last night for their appalling parenting skills.

“Compete with daddy! — Feeling nonsense.” was the caption to the photo of the child drinking from the beer bottle by Facebook user Piranya Penjamras from Songkhla province.

According to Drama-addict, the most popular Thai community on Facebook to discuss social issues, the user’s clip, who it is assumed is the child’s mother, also shows her husband pouring beer from a bottle before handing over a glass of “Lao” or whiskey for the child to drink from.

The video has been removed along with the woman’s Facebook account, but screenshots remain on the internet.

“Shocked by the fireball? Let’s become shocked by this picture. What were his parents thinking?” wrote Drama-addict.

Netizens have also debated whether the video violates the Alcohol Control Act. Awareness to the law was raised recently when several celebrities posted photos of themselves holding Chang beer bottles — which was suspected by authorities to be a promotional campaign.

According to Khaosod English, the law forbids advertising alcohol by showing the brand logos in a way to encourage others to consume alcohol, but authorities recently stressed that private citizens “may be held liable for posting photos of alcohol, but only those doing so for commercial purposes.”

So this one is off the hook.

However, aside from violating a number of moral codes, the case is actually against the Child Protection Act, which prosecutes adults who allow people under 20 years old to drink alcohol, according to T News.
