UPDATE: One dead, five injured in Narathiwas condo fire

After three hours, officials managed to put out the fire at the condo on Narathiwas soi 18 after one person died and five were reportedly injured.

Bangkok Governor Sukhumbhand Paripatra confirmed at 1:20pm on Facebook that the fire had been put out and one person died.

Khaosod English identified the deceased as Angkana Osiri, 65, who witnesses reportedly saw burn to death on the seventh floor.

Nation TV reported five people — three men and two women — were injured and have been sent to hospital for treatment.

Maneerat Kindergarten, located nearby, had to evacuate the children and had their guardians pick them up.

The firemen are still investigating the 10-storey residential building where the fire broke out around 10:30am today to check if there are more victims inside.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, although some reports on Twitter said the flames were lit after the deceased allegedly lit joss sticks to pray to a Chinese god.
