Yesterday, a Thai man was arrested by police for stabbing and robbing a transwoman he met through the Beetalk dating app on Wednesday night, allegedly because he thought she didn’t look like the pictures on her profile.
Around 3pm yesterday, Chonburi police were able to capture Prayat Ooppatam, 31, who was hiding at a house in Bang Saray sub-district, for the bloody physical assault and attempted robbery against the transwoman, identified as 45-year-old Athiwat Duangtim.
Police said Prayat first got to know Athiwat on the increasingly popular dating app called Beetalk before deciding to meet up with her near the Huai Tu Reservoir.
According to Workpoint, when Prayat saw that she didn’t look like her pictures, Prayat stabbed Athiwat with a pair of scissors in the chest around 8pm before continuing to beat her over the head with an unidentified object until she was drenched in blood.
When Prayat tried to steal Athiwat’s phone and cash from her wallet after the assault, however, she managed to escape and solicit help from a nearby house.
According to the police, this is not the first time Prayat has mugged one of his dates. They said the perpetrator confessed that he has used the same scheme to successfully rob four other women prior to this incident.
However, Prayat told authorities that he was especially violent with his latest victim because she didn’t look like her profile.

Prayat has been charged with attempted robbery, carrying a weapon, and bodily harm. Thai Post reported that, after his arrest, he was taken to the scene of the crime to carry out everyone’s favorite Thai police tradition: a crime reenactment.
