It may not be the top news coming out of the Donald J. Trump administration today, that would be the embarrassing tirade new communications chief Anthony Scaramucci unleashed on a New Yorker reporter, but the White House still remembered to send best wishes on the birthday of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn.

It may not seem like much, but given the lambasting the US president has taken for his seeming dismissal of longstanding international relationships and ongoing worries about an apparent downsizing of the State Department, the effort is still appreciated.

The full statement, released by the US Embassy today, follows:

Your Majesty:

On behalf of the American people, Melania and I send you our warm greetings on the occasion of your 65th birthday.

The friendship between the United States and Thailand spans almost 200 years, dating back to the early days of the Chakri Dynasty when King Rama II first wrote to President James Monroe. The United States deeply values our enduring alliance and friendship with Thailand. We look forward to building on our successful partnership to enhance our collective security, deepen ties between our peoples, and promote increased trade and investment between our two great nations.

On this day of celebration, we offer Your Majesty and the royal family our very best wishes.

Sincerely,

Donald Trump
