Thailand upholds King Bhumibol’s birthday as Father’s Day

Thailand has decided to uphold the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s birthday on Dec. 5 as Father’s Day, according to today’s announcement from the Prime Minister’s office.

In addition to Father’s Day, the government has also announced that Dec. 5 will be the National Day and the day to commemorate the birth of King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

After King Bhumibol passed away on Oct. 13, 2016, Thailand plunged into mourning. Government agencies instructed staff to wear mourning colors for one year, while the public are still most often seen in black clothes.

King Bhumibol was succeeded by his son King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun.
