A woman who discovered yesterday that someone had scratched the word “mistress” across the hood of her car is blaming her neighbor, saying the reason isn’t a love affair, but a long-running feud over parking spots.

The woman, identified in local media only as 40-year-old Aumpornrat, filed a police report with Chachoengsao police yesterday.

When investigators came over to inspect the grey Mitsubishi, parked in the lot of Aumpornrat’s flat in Muang district, they discovered that the car had also been scratched up along its side by a sharp object, Thairath reported.

Claiming that she doesn’t have any problems with anyone except her neighbor (aka the parking spot nemesis), Aumpornrat told police she believed the man to be the culprit.

Aumpornrat alleged that the problem after he recently purchased a car, only to discover there aren’t enough parking spaces for everyone.

“Last week he came home drunk, and he was really angry,” she recalled to reporters. “He started yelling at me about not having a parking space and called me names.”

“He was like ‘I know you’re someone’s mistress’ — this and that.”

Coconuts can’t help but observe that out of all the rude words in the Thai vocabulary, “mistress” seems like an oddly tame and specific insult for a drunk neighbor to pick out. To be continued …
