Thai students protest in support of (Hong Kong) democracy

Student activists protested at China’s embassy yesterday to show their support for democracy in Hong Kong.

Members of the Thai Student Centre for Democracy gathered for 15 minutes in front of the Chinese Embassy to hold signs of support for the massive pro-democracy protests unfolding in Hong Kong.

“Over there, the activists are backed by many students who share the same ideals, whereas in Thailand students have very, very different ideas about politics or the coup,” Piyarath Congthep was quoted in Khaosod English

The group left without incident after about 15 minutes, but not without showing a little support for democracy closer to home.

One sign reportedly showed Chinese President Xi Jinping next to some familiar verses:

“China will do as promised. We are asking for a little more time, and the beautiful Hong Kong will return,” it read.
