Rescuers in Krabi last night had to climb a 1,237-step staircase to help a German woman who fainted at Tiger Cave Temple, a popular tourist attraction atop a cliff renowned for its views.

The rescuers of the Krabi Pithak Pracha Foundation were responding to a call that a 26-year-old German woman had fainted at the temple and her friends were too exhausted to carry her down themselves.

After spending an hour ascending the 600-meter-high mountain, seven rescuers finally reached the woman, whose name was not disclosed. She was unconscious and being tended by two friends as well as the nuns at the temple, Sanook reported.

Rescuers took two more hours to carry the woman down the same stairs on a stretcher.

The tourist reportedly gained consciousness after she was brought to the base of the stairs. She was sent to Krabi Hospital and discharged later the same night.
