Forgot your license and ID at home? Don’t worry, there’s an app for that.

Motorists will now be able to show any police officer in Thailand their driver’s license digitally via a smart phone application dubbed “DLT Smart License,” which will launch in mid-January.

The Department of Land Transport (DLT) announced its latest technological innovation yesterday, reported Sanook.

DLT Director-General Peerapol Tavornsuppachaoren said the new “smart license” will make things easier for all drivers, as they won’t need to worry about carrying their license, something we admittedly never saw as particularly onerous.

With the app, police will be able to check all your information — including driving bans and outstanding fines — with a scan of a QR code. Physical credentials will still be acceptable, of course, but no longer necessary as long as you can present your license on your phone.

The app will even send you a notification when your license is about to expire.

In case of accidents or emergencies, the digital license will also include important information such as location, blood type, allergies, and medical history.

The DLT Smart License app will be available for both iOs and Android.
