A 27-year-old Thai man accused of shooting and severely injuring a man last week during a wild road chase that followed a school Father’s Day ceremony has turned himself in.

Suspect, Saranyu Onjaieua, who is facing charges for attempted murder, possessing a weapon without permission and illegally transporting a weapon, showed up on Saturday at a Chachoengsao province police station, reported Workpoint.

Saranyu had been the subject of a manhunt since last Tuesday when, at about 11am, he was allegedly seen riding his motorcycle in pursuit of a dark blue Suzuki Swift down Panit Road in Mueang district — about 50 kilometers outside Bangkok — while holding a handgun and firing multiple shots.

The Suzuki driver, identified as 38-year-old Amata Pinthong, was shot in the back of the neck during the chase.

According to Post Today, the injured Pinthong then sped through heavy traffic in an attempt to reach Mueang Chachoengsao police station to seek help.

The gunman fled when the victim reached the station. Amata was then rushed to a local hospital for treatment.

He remains in the hospital but is reportedly capable of conducting short conversations.

Pol. Lt. Col. Supan Polpakdee, deputy chief of the Muang Chachoengsao police station, told the Bangkok Post that he believed Saranyu had been motivated by jealousy, convinced that his ex-wife was in a relationship with Amata.

The deputy chief added that that both men had been at the same Father’s Day ceremony at their children’s kindergarten before the incident.

As of press time, Saranyu is out on bail.
