The Customs Department is keeping an eye on illegal businesses evading taxes. This includes travelers returning to Thailand with commercial goods, and shipping companies that unlawfully cooperate with Alibaba, eBay and Amazon in non-regulated e-commerce.

Customs Department Director Kulis Sombatsiri said the office will aim for efficient surveillance and control of domestic and foreign agencies. More advanced technology will be used to handle importers and shipping companies, as well as regulate custom payments, reported Thai News Bureau.

Blacklisted shipping companies and those with imported commercial goods will receive special attention. Returning residents carrying more than 20 pieces of luggage, or several kilograms of supplements, will be surveyed, as that indicates the intent to use the products for resale or other commercial purposes.

The department will also monitor goods that are sold at “unlikely prices.”

Tour guides are also being monitored as they are equally in a position to illegally import goods. The department will use social media to detect these said activities, where untaxed goods are made available to consumers as pre-orders.
