More stores announce early closings on day of royal cremation

Following the news that 7-Eleven will close on Oct. 26, the day of the royal cremation, from 2:30pm until midnight, other stores have announced closings on the somber day when Thailand mourns again for it’s late beloved king.

Makro announced yesterday that they will close at 3pm, all True stores (except those in the airports) will close at 3pm in order to allow their staff to pay their respects to the late king, reported Bangkok Post.

The day is an official holiday this year and the country’s banks and stock market are also closed. Many modes of public transport, such as the BTS skytrain, MRT, Airport Rail Link, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and public boats are offering free rides to help people reach the cremation site at Sanam Luang.
