Squidders missing after boat capsizes off Hua Hin

Dozens of search and rescue personnel set out Thursday morning to find two people missing since their fishing vessel capsized in stormy waters off Hua Hin.

One man survived while the fates of the two others are yet unknown after their boat overturned last night about 500 meters from Khao Takiab beach. Their disappearance drew more than 100 search crew members and volunteers into the sea.

Among the three, 35-year-old Thanit Boonsri survived by swimming to shore. He told officers that he set out Wednesday evening with his uncle Yodchai Pimsuwan and friend Kla Singtotong in a squidding boat. While they were catching squid, the ocean waves started to rise and grow stronger, causing the ship to overturn.

Search personnel managed to find their boat, gear and a bag floating on the surface, but no bodies have been discovered. The search was called off at 2am and resumed this morning.
