Beach-goers will have a rare window to catch the sparkling clear waters of Pattaya when its beaches reopen Monday.

Swim, sun-bathe and chill at the beach again, where months of going undisturbed by humans have seen the normally bracky waters running clear – but unlikely for long.

The decision comes after the rise in confirmed COVID-19 infections slowed in recent weeks, Mayor Sonthaya Khunpluem said Friday.

The nine spots to welcome the public are the Pattaya, Jomtien, Phra Tamnak, Cozy, Wong Amat, Krating Rai and Yin Yom beaches, as well as the Lan Pho Na Kluea Public Park and Bali Hai Pier.

However, Sonthaya said, visitors must practice social distancing. While foldable beach chairs will be allowed, they must be separated by 1 meter to 1.5 meters.

Entertainment that draws crowds, such as live music performances, remain prohibited, Sonthaya said. Pattaya’s famed go-go bars, massage parlors and bars, like everywhere else nationwide, must also remain closed for now.
