Rare whale’s death blamed on fishermen

Another fantastical creature bites the dust, adding to humanity’s impeccable record for wise stewardship of the living world.

Following the death of a majestic, rare Bryde’s whale on Sunday, an autopsy found bruises on its carcass which lead marine experts to believe it was killed by a trawling net.

The whale might have struggled to free itself and even been struck by fishermen who wanted to get rid of it quickly, according to Nantarika Chansue of Chulalongkorn University’s Veterinary Medical Aquatic Animal Research Centre.

The resulting injury and stress resulted in fatal shock, state media reported.
