A large crowd of gamblers were arrested and two dozen cocks seized just around the corner from a school and police station yesterday.
Metropolitan and district police rolled in on motorcycles to arrest 89 suspected gamblers and their gear which included playing cards, kratom, and a small amount of cash from the alleged gambling den located near the Din Daeng police station and Surasak Montri School, according to Bangkok Post.
Bangkok police are eager to demonstrate their commitment to tackling such operations after being publicly embarrassed by the military last week and accused of negligence.
A number of police officers were summarily transferred and an investigation launched after soldiers repeatedly raided and shut down illegal casinos operating in their jurisdictions.
An internal investigation reportedly cleared the officers of any wrongdoing, the metro police chief said yesterday.
