Police raid nine sites following tip-off about Bangkok bombing plot

After receiving a tip-off about possible car bombs being built, over one hundred police officers raided nine locations in Ramkhamhaeng and Hua Mark, major residential areas in Bangkok.

Following reports of bomb plots that may take place between Oct. 25-30, Metropolitan Area 4 chief Pol. Maj. Gen. Nanthachat Supamongkol said the search was carried out in accordance with the government’s policy to suppress crimes, The Nation reported.

The local media reported that eight people, who were allegedly linked to a previous seizure of 400 guns in Samut Prakarn, were arrested in the operation. Several have also previously been arrested on drug charges.

Police said today that they have increased security at major landmarks in Bangkok, as well as at airports and in surrounding provinces following the tip-off.

Police have not linked the possible attacks to any group.
