Police to charge contractor over SCB deaths, injuries

Bangkok police will charge a contracting firm over the incident at SCB headquarters that killed eight workers and injured seven others.

The death toll was revised downwards from 10 by Bangkok’s Erawan Emergency Center this morning, after workers carrying out improvements to the bank’s fire prevention system last night accidentally triggered a fire suppression system and suffocated to death from the release of toxic gas.

Acting Bangkok metropolitan police commissioner Pol Lt Gen Sanit Mahathavorn said this morning that police were preparing to file charges against the contractor for negligence causing deaths and injuries, Thai PBS reported.

Forensic police are investigating the tragedy, in which five died at the scene, while three others were later declared dead at hospital.

Seven others who were at the scene are receiving treatment.
