After a long wait, the Bangkok City Library will finally open on Friday, April 7, in Old Town to become a model library for the nation, providing Thai and foreign language books for everyone to enjoy.
Located at Kok Wua Intersection on Ratchadamnoen Road, the Bangkok City Library will have a launch event on Friday, and residents are invited to come read books and test the new facility.
In an attempt to encourage reading and provoke thought, the library will provide a relaxing lobby on the first floor where you can peruse books or use computers to do research. The second floor is devoted to material for children and young adults. The third floor will contain a selection of Thai and foreign language books with meeting rooms, and the fourth floor will offer books related to ASEAN, classic and modern literature, and a “hall of fame,” which will introduce you to legendary Thai writers.
Unfortunately, contrary to their earlier announcement that this library will be open 24 hours a day, the new hours announced were Tuesdays – Saturdays from 8am – 12am and Sundays from 9am – 8pm. The library will be closed on Mondays and national holidays, according to Thai Ticket Major.
The nearest MRT station is Hua Lamphong, and you can hop on bus No. 159 and get out at Kok Wua Intersection to reach the library.
