Our Favorite Things: Thai take on ‘The Sound of Music’ to stage this week

Classic of classics “The Sound of Music” has been translated for a Bangkok production opening Thursday at Rachadalai Theater.

The timeless story of Maria Rainer, a young woman who leaves an Austrian convent to become a governess to seven children during World War II will be brought to life in Thai by former child pop stars Napatsorn “Dao” Simasathien and Thananthorn “Fang” Neerasing.

A review of sample tracks posted online suggest the lyrics were carefully translated into Thai to faithfully capture their original meaning in English.

The production runs through April 26 at the theater inside the Esplanade shopping mall. Tickets range from THB1,000 – 4,500 and can be purchased from Thai Ticket Major.
