Although we’ve had weeks of summer storms, it’s not yet officially been monsoon season — until today that is.

The Meteorological Department’s director-general, Wanchai Sakudomchai, finally ended the suspense this morning, announcing that the rainy season has well and truly arrived. What’s more, Thailand can now brace for four months of wet weather.

Now would be time to add an umbrella to your everyday backpack.

With the southwest monsoon hitting the Andaman Sea this week, Thailand can expect heavy downpours in the upper part of the country. In Bangkok, you can expect rain this week: every. single. day.

If there’s any blessing, average temperatures this week will “only” run between 26 and 32 degrees Celsius, which, for Bangkokians, is considered a little bit on the “cooler side.”
