Long walk to Don Mueang for tourists stranded by PDRC tollway blockage

Photos of tourists walking down the Don Muang Tollway shared throughout social media today have sparked online debate as to whether the People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) has crossed the line of civility.

The PDRC protesters have blocked inbound and outbound traffic on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road and the Don Mueang Tollway in the areas surrounding the Police Club – where the government’s Center for the Administration of Peace and Order (Capo) headquarters are located – and their Chaeng Wattana protest base.

According to MThai, the traffic closure forced many tourists to give up their taxis and walk down the tollway all the way to Don Mueang Airport in the mid-day stifling heat.

Concerned netizens said the incident will have a negative impact on Thailand’s tourism industry. They also reasoned that the PDRC’s rights to protest is compromising the rights of others.

Traffic police have currently advised drivers to avoid Vibhavadi Rangsit Road and use Phaholyothin Road instead.
