Koh Samet’s coral reef ‘fine’ after oil spill

The coral reefs surrounding Koh Samet were not affected by the recent PTT oil spill, according to an inspection report by the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources.

The Department and a group of scientists delivered the report after surveying twelve sites including Koh Kudi, Koh Pla Teen, Koh Kham, Koh Kruay, Khao Laem Ya and many beaches on Koh Samet.

The report revealed that marine species, such as sponge, giant clams, Christmas tree worms and urchins were not harmed either. Only a few of coral colonies were found covered with thin mucus.
