Knife-wielding shirtless man protests at Ratchaprasong Intersection

A middle-aged man stood shirtless and wielded a knife in protest outside the Royal Thai Police headquarters near Ratchaprasong Intersection around 11am today.

The man, later identified as Nattawat U-lanpongsuk, was reportedly yelling at the police to demand justice for his family.

He was shirtless and only wearing cardboard signs on his back that said “Reform the Office of the Attorney General today,” and “Please give poor people access to justice.”

After a long negotiation, the man was detained and questioned at Pathumwan Police Station.

Police Radio JS100 reported that Nattawat demands the progress of police work on three different cases involving his family. The first case was that his son was shot in his buttock by a homeowner because he ran away from an angry dog to hide inside the premises. The second case is fraud, in which Nattawat tried to get his car fixed but the garage sold his car for profits and never paid him. The last case involves his brother-in-law who has been charged with reckless driving after killing someone in an accident.

The police are handling the man’s requests.
