Kilombu: Art and performances at Sukhumvit warehouse challenge the mainstream

Cecê Nobre or Yik, an “anthropological artist” based in Thailand, has teamed up with Training Ground to launch an art exhibition named “Kilombu: Chapter 1”.

Set in a warehouse on Sukhumvit featuring 1200 square meters of murals painted by Cecê, the concept revolves around the fictional island nation of “Kilombu”, which the artist describes as a “multicultural society in an indigenous lifestyle”.

“It is a fresh take on our society and a straight punch-in-the-face to modern globalization,” Cecê says.

The exhibition will showcase performances and paintings which aim to encourage visitors to think about their modern environment.

The interactive exhibition will challenge audiences both mentally and physically through obstacle courses, indigenous sports, dance, drum circle and martial arts. Body art workshops, giveaways and food trucks will also feature.

Entrance is free for those with traditional ethnic clothing, musical instruments, or banana leaves, but if you come empty-handed, the fee is THB107.

Why THB107? Feel free to ask Cecê at his exhibition.
