Immigration Bureau announces data system not hacked

The Immigration Bureau said that no unauthorized access has been unearthed in its immigration system, nor has any data been stolen.

In response to an ongoing rumor that the Immigration Bureau has been hacked by an unknown group or individuals, and possibly linked to public protest over the new Computer Crime Act, Immigration Police chief Pol, Lt. Gen. Natthorn Phrosunthorn said the agency’s immigration screening system is not connected to the internet, therefore it can’t be accessed by an outsider, ruling out the possibility of any information being stolen, reported Thai News Bureau.

He added that the bureau’s Personal Identification Blacklist Immigration Control System, which enables immigration centers to access other databases, both domestic and international; much like Interpol, the Customs Department, security agencies, and commercial airlines; is a closed system that doesn’t grant remote access to anyone.

As for the bureau’s website, he said it contains only general information which is not confidential or related to national security.
