In a story that was reported on by local media over the weekend, a Hong Kong man said that his bag containing cash and valuables worth more than THB1 million (US$30,800) vanished after he got into a brawl with four transwomen on Pattaya’s Walking Street on Tuesday.

Vincent Chen, who claims to have worked as an extra in numerous Hong Kong movies, sought help from the Thai media on Saturday after alleging that the police had neglected his case.

According to Chen’s account, the incident started at around 5am on Sept. 18. Chen said that four transwomen approached him on Walking Street and asked him for some money to buy food. He said that he agreed to give them THB500.

Chen said that the group wasn’t satisfied and demanded THB1,000, so they got into a fight after he refused, Siamchon reported.

During the chaos, Chen said that someone snatched his bag and the valuables within. He claimed that it contained THB120,000 in cash and another HK$5,000 (THB20,000), a Rolex watch worth THB520,000, a THB400,000 bracelet, three mobile phones and his passport.

Authorities appeared on the scene and took Chen and the women to the local police station to settle the dispute. His attackers were fined for starting the brawl, but he never got his valuables back.

Yesterday afternoon, he and his interpreter met with Pattaya police again, MThai reported.

Pattaya Police commander Pol. Col. Apichai Krobpetch said yesterday that they checked the CCTV cameras where the fight occurred and now might have a clue as to who stole his bag.

Pol. Col. Apichai dismissed the claim that the police neglected the case, saying they were still actively investigating it.

Chen said that he did not expect to get his valuables back and now he just wants to retrieve his passport so he can fly back to Hong Kong to spend the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday with his family.
