The number of foreign tourists to come to Thailand in December reached a new record high of 3.5 million people, who spent more than THB190 billion (US$5.9 billion) in tourism revenue.

Permanent Secretary for Tourism and Sports Pongpanu Svetarundra revealed that last year most of the foreign tourists who visited Thailand came from East Asian countries, followed by Europe, South Asia, and the U.S.

Compared to the same period during 2016, the number of foreign tourists increased by 15.51 percent, reported Thai News Bureau.

A survey on Thai tourism found that 57 percent of foreign tourists were repeat visitors to Thailand and 53 percent were only visiting Thailand on their trip, not touring nearby countries as well.
