Government sounds alarm about sharp rise in dengue fever infections

The Public Health Minister is warning citizens to dispose of sources of standing water that may breed mosquitos, as this year’s dengue fever infections has shown a dramatic and worrying rise.

In the past five months, 39,029 Thais have come down with dengue fever and 44 have died thanks to the disease.

According to the Nation, almost 50% of the dengue fever patients this year have been children under the age of 15. This has prompted the Public Health Ministry to advise schools to pay special attention to the disposal of standing water.
