Fruit Rant: Thai Airways promises Prayuth it will serve tastier pineapple

Complaints about service and pricing competitiveness aside, troubled carrier Thai Airways is looking to shake up its menu.

The airline announced it had set up a special committee to revamp its menu after junta chief Gen. Prayuth Chan-ocha complained about having to eat some nasty pineapple on the national carrier.

“There will be no more tasteless pineapples,” the airline’s Anussorn Naksrichum told Bangkok Post. “From now on passengers will get fresh, yellow ones.”

Prayuth smeared Thai’s fruit last month during a speech at the Stock Exchange of Thailand.

“If you want to find tasteless grapes, go on board Thai planes,” he reportedly said. “Pineapples too! Their color is pale and they are tasteless!”

In an announcement in state media, the airline said it would strive to address his complaints.

“Aside from food, Thai Airways has pledged to be more selective with fruit,” it read.

It said it will invite top restaurants and hotels to offer their finest dishes on “selected” flights, one would imagine those listing Prayuth on the passenger manifest.
