To artist Pimpisa Timpali, we are generally poor assessors of our own states of willful freedom and captivity.
In her upcoming exhibition “Freedom and Captivity,” Pimpisa explores how our minds view and assess freedom and captivity. There will be a display of 12 medium-sized sculptures which will express what appears to be freedom to one person, but captivity to another..
Pimpisa sees her sculptures as childish but the message of her work reflects our daily lives. For example, a human body with a bird’s head illustrates freedom as birds are symbols of freedom and humans have free will.
The purpose of her work is to motivate people to observe the symbolic messages of the sculptures and to interpret them their own way.
The exhibition is free and will be held from Sept. 19 to Oct. 21.
