Former bus driver accused of slingshotting stones at vehicles in Sutthisan-Ratchadaphisek area

Police today apprehended a former bus driver they say rented three taxis to pelt vehicles with stones on Sutthisan and Ratchadaphisek roads using a slingshot. They said he carried out the crime out of frustration with losing his job.

Paiwan Aechaiyaphum was taken into custody under cooperation of cops from four stations, namely Sutthisan, Din Daeng, Huai Khwang, and Phaholyothin. He used the slingshot to shoot stones at buses, cars, motorbikes, and shops, damaging at least three vehicles and two shops. At least 10 people were reportedly injured.

The 48-year-old man told police that he was angry that he was dismissed from his job as a bus driver. Since the middle of the month, he allegedly rented three different taxis to drive around and carry out the crime, targeting only buses at first before expanding to other targets.

Metro cop commander Pakkapong Pongpetra said that Paiwan was caught pelting stones on at least 20 occasions by CCTV cameras in various locations, including the Sutthisan-Ratchadaphisek tunnel, Ratchaprarop bridge, and Lat Phrao Soi 1. Paiwan is currently under police investigation and charges against him haven’t been announced.
