Dry Rain: Prayuth asks Thais to go booze-free during rainy season

Following comments condemning a twerking teen singer, party pooper Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha now wants the public to avoid booze for three months during Buddhist Lent, which coincides with rainy season and starts on July 9.

For the annual Buddhist rain retreat, which is similar to Christian Lent, Prayuth asked the public to refrain from hitting the sauce and instead spend their free time doing good deeds and upholding the five moral precepts of Buddhism which include refraining from harming living things, stealing, sexual misconduct, lying, and taking intoxicating substances.

He noted that the Ministry of Public Health will launch a number of activities to help Thais give up drinking during the holy period. We guess these don’t include beer yoga or any happy hours.

This year’s Lent is will be celebrated from July 9 to Oct. 5, Thai News Bureau reported.
