Fourteen months behind schedule, the all-in-one tickets for public transportation, Mangmoom Card (Spider Card), will finally launch on Oct. 1, and it won’t work at most train stations.

What did you expect?

The Spider Card was supposed to be a dream come true and help Bangkokians swipe through BTS, MRT, Airport Rail Link and city buses with ease, but it will only work with the interchange points on the BTS and MRT and some of the city buses in the initial stage, said Director Chaiwat Tongkamkoon of the Office of Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning.

“You have to understand that it’s difficult to install and test the common ticketing system at all train stations by the end of September. We have limited working hours — about 3-4 hours per day — from midnight to 4am because the trains operate from 5am to midnight. We can’t do anything during open hours,” Chaiwat told Post Today.

Sir, you’ve had two years since the project was announced in 2015.

In October, the system will only be ready at the interchange stations including BTS Mochit and MRT Chatuchak, BTS Asoke and MRT Sukhumvit, BTS Phaya Thai which connects to the Airport Rail Link, and MRT Taopoon linking the Purple and Blue lines.

At each station, there will only be one or two Spider Card readers, so you will have to look for them before you queue and swipe out.

The ticketing system will also be installed on about 800 city buses.
