Court rejects arrest warrant for ‘Ying Gai,’ hi-so who accused maid of stealing gold

In the latest development in a high-profile theft case, the Criminal Court rejected the request for an arrest warrant for the much-ridiculed rich woman “Ying Gai” yesterday. The charges would have been for giving false statements to authorities. They reasoned that she had not tried to escape, so there was no need to arrest her.

The court suggested, instead, that the police issue a summons for Monta “Ying Gai” Yokrattanakarn to acknowledge the charge. This comes after a re-enactment of the crime proved there was not enough time for the maid to steal anything.

In March of 2014, Ying Gai filed a police complaint against her teen maid, Prapawan “Goi” Jaikla, now 19, and her parents, for stealing THB10 million-worth of gold bars and diamonds from her home in Chatuchak district, Thai PBS reported

The family reportedly worked as servants of Ying Gai, but on the day they quit their jobs, Ying Gai accused them of theft.

However, when the case’s investigators re-enacted the scene on Monday, they found that walking to the elevator in Ying Gai’s condo and back takes one minute and thirtyseconds, which matched the time on the CCTV footage of when Goi and her mother were back in the elevator. This would mean it was unlikely that the maids had time to grab any of Ying Gai’s valuables and put them into their backpack.

Goi, the daughter who brought the case to attention of the public recently, told media that her former employer filed a false theft charge against her family after she rejected an alleged “job offer” from Ying Gai in Hong Kong.

Goi said she did not know what the job was.

While Ying Gai has denied that she was involved with human trafficking, President of the Association of District Chief, Boonyarit Nipawanich, has requested that the Department of Special Investigation look into the matter, Thairath reported.

Boonyarit claimed that he has received complaints from villagers in Mae Hong Sorn province that Ying Gai, who gave herself the noble title Khun Ying or “Lady,” allegedly took at least two teen girls from Mae La Noi district to work with her and promised to pay for their education. Instead, Ying Gai treated them as servants and never sent them to school.

He said Ying Gai also made the girls accompany her to casinos in neighboring countries.

The two girls claimed Ying Gai threatened them, and that their parents ended up having to pay THB30,000 each to get the girls back.

Nation TV reported that Ying Gai is supposed to report to the Crime Suppression Division on July 11, according to the division’s deputy commander Pol. Col. Chakrit Sawaddee.
