Police believe a foreign gang were behind the murder of a Spanish man whose body parts were found in the Chao Phraya River.
DNA testing revealed the body parts belonged to Spanish business consultant David Bernat, who was last seen on Jan. 20, Khaosod English reported.
Police, who said they had heard from one witness, also believe the perpetrators had local help.
“We believed the perpetrators are foreigners,” Pol. Gen. Panya Maman told Khaosod English. “We tend to believe there were Thai nationals involved since the murder was so outrageous.”
Police believe Bernat was abducted and extorted before he was killed, between Jan. 25 and Jan. 27. They believe he was suffocated to death.
They are working with the Spanish embassy to investigate his murder and identify suspects.
