The Royal Thai Police honored a Bangkok delivery rider yesterday for saving a child from running into traffic.

Police recognized the bravery of Peeraphong Chumphonwadee after CCTV footage went viral showing him rescue a young boy from an oncoming vehicle Sunday on Phra Ong Chao Sai Road in the Lam Luk Ka district of the northern metro province of Pathum Thani.

In the clip originally posted by Peeraphong’s girlfriend on TikTok, the 32-year-old Line Man deliveryman is about to ride off on his motorcycle when he spots a child running into the street, apparently to reach his father crossing from the median. Peeraphong quickly dumps his motorbike and runs to scoop up the child.

Although the motorists appeared to be aware of the child in the road, netizens resharing the clip hailed Peeraphong’s selfless actions.

“Awesome, running without worrying about the car or any sense of danger,” Anand Tohyee wrote.

Peeraphong told reporters that while the food and drinks he had just picked up were ruined, the restaurant, having witnessed his heroic deed, decided to remake the order free of charge.

Peeraphong’s girlfriend later posted a video of him thanking everyone for their support. She also made another clip explaining that the original video, which she deleted after it was watched more than 4 million times, was only posted as evidence for the police.
