Construction work to start at Khlong Lat Phrao for flood prevention

Construction work has kicked off at Khlong Lat Phrao as part of a Bangkok flood management project.

The first phase, costing THB1.65 billion, will start at the canal along Pradit Manutham Road as officials construct a reinforced concrete dam and floodgates at the canal to stop flooding and canal encroachment.

The officials are starting with an 8km stretch of the canal, along less populated areas. The first phase should be complete by June 2019.

Bangkok Governor MR Sukhumband Paribatra said the project will make it easier for authorities to dredge the canal and prevent erosion, as well as preventing flooding in eight Bangkok districts.

Streets by the canal will eventually serve as cycling paths.
