Bus No. 8 conductor sacked for alleged sexual harassment of female passenger

As well as being the speediest vehicle on the road, Bus No. 8 has added another dubious claim to fame.

A conductor of the bus was fired yesterday after a female passenger accused him of sexually harassing her during a ride from MRT Ladprao on Saturday night.

The Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) instructed the bus operator to fire the conductor, identified only as “Pai,” yesterday following a complaint by a woman who claimed Pai was being a total creep by touching her and then following her when she got off the bus.

“The conductor started by sitting next to me. He took my THB20 bill for the fare but when he gave me change he deliberately stroked my hand,” user Mmyok Stw wrote on a public Facebook post.

“Then he pressed his body against me. I tried and tried to pull away. The worst part was his hand was toying around my leg like he was trying to touch it.”

After taking photos of him and texting her friend for advice, the victim decided to get off the bus even before she reached her destination at Chatuchak Park, but the conductor still wouldn’t leave her alone.

“After I got up, he followed and was right behind me. His body was almost pressed against me. I finally got off the bus.

“In that situation, I wanted to scream and humiliate him, but I don’t know why I wasn’t brave enough. Please share this post, and women who use buses, be careful.”

The user reportedly filed an official complaint to the BMTA as her Facebook post was picked up by several media websites.

Klum 39 Dernrod, the company which operated bus, told BMTA that Pai disappeared after the story went viral. He worked for another bus company and was asked by their regular conductor Akkaradech Masoongnern to cover his shift.

The company was fined THB2,000 and Akkaradech was suspended for three days for allowing another person to do his job.

Aside from instructing Pai’s employer to fire him, the organization also banned him from working at all public bus companies, Thairath reported.
