Do you care about the environment and sustainability? Well, you already clicked on this article so we’re assuming your answer is “Oh! yes, I do!” And even if it’s not, just read on anyway and prepare to be inspired. We promise.

Get ready for some serious entrepreneurship inspiration with the final new venture plan competition of the mai Bangkok Business Challenge® @ Sasin 2017. Be a part of it all as it takes place right here in Bangkok on Feb. 16-18 at Sasin Graduate Institute of Business Administration Chulalongkorn University. The annual competition, which is hosted in English, is all about cultivating the seeds of sustainable business through the ingenious ideas of graduate students.

The annual event encourages entrepreneurship and networking among business students. Businesses also benefit by getting creative ideas and inspiration from young talented minds for sustainable growth.

Teams from universities around the world will compete for the honor of taking home the coveted H.M. The King’s Award, kindly bestowed by His Majesty, the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej as well as a cash prize of over USD58,000. (Yowzas!)

The stakes are high and if the creativity level of these business plans is anything to go by, it will be a very tough decision indeed.

The teams were narrowed down from 70 to just 15 teams from 11 top universities around the world, including teams from the Cornell University, University of Oregon, Lundquist College if Business, Asian Institute of Management – Philippines, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, University of Dhaka, Queensland University of Technology and many more, together with Thailand’s Sasin Graduate Institute.

The Stock Exchange of Thailand, SCG, Houston Technology Center Asia, Mitr Phol Group support the event. Kiatnakin Phatra Financial Group, PTT Public Company Limited and The Money Channel and are co-sponsors. Plus, the competition garners worldwide interest, so it’s no wonder teams came up with such out of the box ideas:

PDvice, the team from Sasin Graduate Institute of Business Administration, is focused on new technology for Parkinson’s patients and elderly who suffer from motor disease. Their mission is to improve the quality of patient’s’ daily life while reducing the economic burden of their disease.

Team Farmsters, from Hong Kong University of Technology, created a social enterprise to simplify the production and sharing of locally produced vegetables. Their plan allows organic/hydroponic food production to be controlled by smartphones, easily linking demand to supply.

Comso, from the Asian Institute of Management, Philippines, saw that waste from the fashion industry is growing at an exponential rate. Their plan is to reduce waste by repurposing discarded textiles and converting them into alternative building materials like thermal insulation rolls and acoustical boards, bridging the gap between price and sustainability.

University of Dhaka’s team has created BliEye, the world’s first tactile eye-device for blind and visually impaired people. It uses an ultrasonic object detector and audio book system to allow safe movement and better education. Their plan provides an opportunity for an affordable solution for visual impairment and disrupts a market that hasn’t seen a significant innovation in the last 40 years.

But of course, that’s not all. Want to learn more about the breakthrough business plans from the rest of the teams?
