A 20-year-old woman died in a fire that burned down her house on Phaholyothin Soi 24 in Bangkok yesterday.

Panida Chokuaipornchai, a business student at the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, was found dead on the second floor of the townhome that she shared with her mother and aunt yesterday morning.

Her 71-year-old aunt Nawaporn said that when she left the house at around 8:20am, Panida was sleeping in her room. At about 9am, Nawaporn got a call from her acquaintance that there was a fire in her neighborhood. She rushed back to find out it was her own house.

By the time Nawaporn arrived, the firefighters had already condoned off the area. Panida was found dead by a window on the second floor, Amarin TV reported.

Her mother Napa, 60, said that Panida was her only child, and it was only last week that the family took her to make merits on the occasion of her 20th birthday.

While a common cause of fire in Thai homes is the burning of joss sticks, Nawaporn insisted that her family doesn’t light them inside the house as Panida had allergies.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.
