Hello, readers slash fellow pollution-sufferers. Today’s smog update is going to be a little different, as we’ve decided to add a bit of humor to the mix — not ours, yours — but before we can get to the fun part, lets get the nitty gritty out of the way.

The latest update from Air Quality Index (AQI) at noon today indicates that Bangkok’s current pollution situation has continued to show improvement, having been downgraded from “unhealthy for sensitive groups” to “moderate” levels.

However, some parts of Bangkok including Bang Khun Thian and Din Daeng district remain stuck at “unhealthy.”

As more Bangkokians utilize face masks, many (us included) have not been able to get a hold of one, since many convenience stores and pharmacies have run out.

In fact, a poll of 2,200 Bangkokians taken over Monday and Tuesday by The Standard — an online Thai-language news publication — revealed that while 1,106 people surveyed, or about 50 percent, were wearing masks to protect themselves, a frighteningly large chunk of the unequipped half of the populace said they simply couldn’t find one.

On the bright side, hilarious #smog memes have been flooding social media this week so, naturally, Coconuts Bangkok decided to compile a list of some of our favorites.

Many crafty netizens were quick to draw parallels to pop culture.

While some found dramatic music video moments in the mist.

Some went political.

While others cracked wise on Instagram.

Not to brag (too much), but we even came up with one of our own.

Sure, it’s a serious health crisis, but if push comes to shove, we’d rather laugh than cry.
