Bangkok ‘klepto’ accused of stealing seats, merch from Red War stadium

A woman suspected of making off with stadium seats and other merchandise related to last week’s football match between Manchester United and Liverpool was arrested last night.

Kenika Rattanainthachai, 34, was arrested at a commercial building in Bangkok’s Thung Khru district after officers said she discovered numerous red seats from the Bangkok Century Cup match that took place one week ago at Rajamangala Stadium.

The recovered items included four seats used by the players, 13 folding spectator chairs, 100 seat covers, and a poster for opening act Jackson Wang.

The four cushioned seats reserved for the players were found slashed with a knife. They were said to be worth THB413,000 because the match’s organizer, Fresh Air Festival, planned to sell them for THB100,000 each in an effort to recoup costs.

Police said that Kenika told them she was a kleptomaniac.

Some of the items were discovered missing Friday, three days after Liverpool’s 4-0 win over Manchester United.

CCTV footage showed a man and woman hauling the items away. Police managed to track down the pickup truck used in the alleged heist, and arrested the man, who they did not identify.

He told them he worked for a private transport company and was hired by Kenika to haul things from the stadium to a condominium in Ekkamai.
