There are over 2,000 monkeys roaming free near tourist attractions in the seaside getaway town of Hua Hin. Centered around the areas of the Royal Hua Hin Golf Course, Khao Takiab Temple, and Hin Lek Fai Hill, the monkeys intimidate tourists, steal food from visitors and restaurants, and cause damage to houses.

Because of their mischievous nature, the Wildlife and Plant Conservation Department and Department of Livestock Development have decided to sterilize the monkeys and install containment cages in the areas being taken over by the monkeys, reported Hua Hin Today.

Though signs have been posted in Thai and English asking visitors not to feed the animals, many still do.

At first, about 600 monkeys living near the golf course and the temple will be placed in containment areas located at Hin Lek Fai Hill.

The Livestock Development Department will be responsible for sterilizing them and feeding them daily. The government’s plan is to make Hin Lek Fai Hill a tourist destination for checking out views and feeding monkeys.

However, it’s a bit different feeding wild monkeys and feeding those held in cages.
