An employee at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport was caught stealing from a passenger at a security checkpoint yesterday.

The employee, Busakorn Somngamdee, 26, admitted to stealing CNY4,000 (about THB20,000) in cash from a Chinese tourist after security guards saw her on CCTV opening the passenger’s purse and putting the cash in her pocket.

It was unclear if the Chinese tourist knew her money was missing, but the airport contacted her to get her money back, while Busakorn was charged with theft at the airport.

Although the employee insisted this was the first time she stole, Kittipong Kittikajorn, Deputy Director of Suvarnabhumi Airport, said that he will also check old security footage to see if Busakorn has stolen before.

Last week, eight baggage handlers at the airport were caught stealing duty-free goods worth THB1 million from an airline

All of them were charged with theft, as the airport rushes to come up with measures to prevent more stealing.
